Want Abs? Forget the Gym & Get in the Kitchen

What's the best way to get a trim waist or a ripped six pack? The answer may shock you, but abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. While it is important to keep your abdominal muscles strong, having strength in your midsection does equal washboard abs. You may have built the best set of abs on the planet, but if  a layer of fat is covering them, neither you nor anyone else will know it.  Here are some suggestions:

  1. Fat follows the LIFO rule - Last In First Out. If you just have started gaining weight around your waist, you may be in luck. However, for many men (and some women) this may be disappointing news since fat tends to settle around the waistline first.

  2. Drink more Water: Try the NiftyPicks 12 oz water challenge or just learn the benefits here.

  3. Limit Bread Intake: Unless you are an avid runner, cyclist, or aerobics instructor, you should watch your bread consumption. Bread has concentrated calories that the body loves to store as energy. That energy turns to fat when it is not used. If you are going to eat bread stick to the whole wheat and whole grain stuff.

  4. Eat More Fiber: Foods high in fiber are like oil for your digestive track as it helps also flush out stuff that may otherwise be stored as fat in your body. Vegetables are your friend. As are fruits with skin, and low sugar foods made with whole grains.
