12 oz Daily Morning Nutrition Challenge: Water

Did you know that over 60% of your body is water? Not tea, juice, coffee or soda. . .pure water! Given this, it should be no surprise that water is the most important nutrient for our body. Most people, however, do not drink enough of it. Let’s face, water is boring and lots of people dislike the (lack of) flavor. Since we all need it, try this trick:
Drink a tall glass of water every morning before eating or drinking anything else. Add a slice of lemon or cucumber if necessary. A tall glass is about 12 ounces. That’s nearly 20% of water the fluid intake you need for the day. While, it’s not all that you should drink in a day, it is enough to feel the difference in your body.
Benefits:
Your body craves water in the morning - Waking up from a night of sleep leaves you slightly dehydrated. Your body wants the water.
Flushes your system - after a night’s rest, your body has repaired a lot of damage from previous days. Your kidneys work hard to filter out the waste from that repair. Water helps the kidney in that process by replacing all the bad stuff found in your food and other drinks. Over two weeks, you’ll start seeing the difference in your skin. Ask any supermodel.
Gets your digestion flowing - if you had a good night’s sleep, you’ve likely fasted for 8 hours. The best way to break your fast and wake up the digestive system is with a glass of water. It helps to prepare your system to move (pun intended) all the good, bad, and ugly stuff through your system. Over time, you may discover that your clothes feel looser as water replaces other drinks that you may otherwise consume.
Energy - water helps improve circulation of the blood. Better blood circulation means more nutrients to muscles. Since 70% of your brain is also water, it will also aid in eliminating the morning groggy effect.
Your vitamins Need Water to work - Vitamins B and C are important for energy, protein creation, cell regeneration, and infection prevention. These vitamins, however, cannot do their work alone. What do they need? You guessed it, water!
